Monica Flores (They/Them) is a Chicanx multidisciplinary artist born and raised in The Bronx, NY. In 2018, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Herbert H. Lehman College, majoring in Journalism with a double minor in Political Science and Photography. Their work spans 35mm film, digital photography, graphic design, and alternative photographic processes such as cyanotypes.

Through a journalistic lens, Flores documents New York City’s diasporas and subcultures. By transforming their photographs into deep-blue, watercolor-like cyanotypes, Flores challenges contemporary documentary standards and invites viewers into a more abstract and experimental form of archiving. Their work explores themes of gender non-conformity, Xicanismo, spirituality, and philosophy. Flores’ work has been showcased at The Point CDC, The Longwood Art Gallery, the Langston Hughes House, New Women’s Space, and the Edgar Allan Poe Park Visitor Center.

In addition to creating art, Flores is an experienced cultural worker with a strong background in event organizing and community programming. They have collaborated with various organizations to produce live music shows, facilitate art education workshops, and organize mutual aid initiatives.
